The Suddenly Single Chronicles

Even though my blog isn’t that old, it was time that I re-vamped things a little. When I decided to start blogging, I wanted to journalize (I know that’s not a word) my life. I wanted to be able to talk about what I wanted to talk about. Then I decided to focus on making printables. But I have a story to tell. That is the story of being a single mom in the dating game. So I decided to launch The Suddenly Single Chronicles.

I love that picture! Yes that’s me looking cute with an orchid in my hair. A few weeks ago, February 3rd 2017 to be exact, I went to South Beach Miami, Florida to celebrate my 40th, yes 40th birthday. I had the time of my life! Now, there are a lot of things you see in that picture but one thing not pictured is the “man” that treated me to this most wondrous birthday getaway. The same man who once we returned asked me to keep the pictures of us “close to my heart”. In other words, keep them off social media. I had people asking me if I went to Miami alone. This got me to thinking, how did I get to this point? How did I fall for a man that, to quote Steve Harvey’s book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, won’t “PROFESS” his love for me?

How to Track Your Finances

A few months ago, I wrote a post on how to keep track your finances. You can read that post here. The free download in this post is great! I use it myself and I have advised others in how to use it. While using it, I realized there were some minor adjustments that would make this document even more user friendly.

Top 6 Things Every School Counselor Needs

This school year marks the start of my second year as a school counselor. One of the things I have learned is that building and gathering resources is an ongoing process. Today I want to share with you the top 6 things that I could not do without as a beginning school counselor. These items are the bare minimal things that get me through the school year even though I am still collecting and developing my school counselor program.

    1. School Counselor Binder: I don’t know what I would do without my School Counselor Binder! This binder keeps me organized and on top of important meetings and appointments. There are a ton of options out there but I created one that is simple and easy to use and what I love the most is the fact that the cover pages can be colored in. Included in this binder are monthly calendars, weekly schedule, students to see list, and a notes section.

What is Counselor Mail and Why is it Important?

It has been almost two weeks since my last post. As much as I enjoy creating printables, there are two more important jobs that I tend to on a daily basis. One is that of a single mother, and the other is that of a school counselor. Now that school is in full swing, I am finding it somewhat difficult to create documents every week.

Today’s post is about something that I am super excited to implement in my school this year. School Counselor Mail! I bet you are wondering what counselor mail is and what’s so great about it. Well, by delivering mail to students I am letting them know that I appreciate them and it also helps me to get to know them better.

Counselor Mail Postcards

I can’t take complete credit for this idea. When researching ways to connect to my students, I came across this idea on the Elementary School Counseling website. Marissa explains how she delivers at least two pieces of mail to each of the 350 students at her school throughout the school year by delivering mail to one student per class per week.

Her dedication inspired me to do the same for my students. However, I have almost 800 students so my goal is to make sure every student has at least one piece of mail from me by the end of the school year. On the site you can download the template Marissa uses to deliver her mail. But I decided to go with something different.
